On January 12, 2010, a devastating 7.0 earthquake ravaged Haiti, further overwhelming a country already contending with poverty, inadequate infrastructure, poor healthcare, and lack of education.

Adding to this calamity is Haiti’s orphan crisis, made worse by the earthquake. Haiti is home to more than 300,000 orphans. Many of these orphans receive a primary education at an orphanage; after primary school, however, most children leave the orphanage, trying to live on their own with little education or skills – the cycle of ignorance and poverty continues.
