They Have Nothing, But More Than Most Of Us

What made you decide to step up and go on a RetailROI trip?

Greg Buzek, a friend, asked me if I wanted to go to Liberia to consult on the future and current construction projects, meet all the players involved and also meet the incredible kids. After little hesitation, I was in. I mean, who doesn’t want to go to Liberia?!!!

How did this trip affect you?

That is a long list and not easy to answer. Any time, you meet and witness people that have so little, but seem to be happier than most people you know, it affects you in ways that are not easily measured. My family, my friends and other business associates are discussing how we can get involved in the future to a greater level. Liberia, Emmanual Jones and the kids are in need and are grateful for anything they receive.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about going on a trip but hasn’t “stepped up“ yet?

By deciding to NOT go, you are saying that others do not need what you have (your talents, expertise, finances, love, care). By NOT going, you are saying that you do not want to affect others in a positive way. By saying YES, you are willing to help others that are less fortunate, but you will return the one that has been blessed and changed. It will be a trip(s) that you will never forget and will change how you view everything. You will literally become a better spouse, parent, friend, coworker, CEO, etc. because there is no way that change will not occur in you.

Share one thing you learned while on your trip that has stuck with you?

Contentment. I watched the adults in leadership at Liberia repeatedly deflect any offers to help them personally to the orphanages and the kids. They always said that they have what they need, let’s help the kids. The greater vision ALWAYS overruled self.

What if we Americans had that contentment level and passion about our causes and beliefs?

I also learned that ROI is an incredible avenue to reach others. The lack of administration costs associated with most organizations makes it THE ticket to reach orphans throughout the world.

GO ROI!
